PERFORMANCE REPORT

Recent ProjectsThe most significant achievement of the Gooding Soil Conservation District was the completion of the 4 year study on the Bliss Nitrate Ground Water Study.  The Gooding Soil Conservation District completed the Bliss Nitrate Priority area study on 6800 acres northwest of Bliss, Idaho. This farming area was identified by the Idaho Department of Agriculture for exceeding nitrate standards on well water and listed as one of Idaho’s top 25 nitrate priority areas.  Studies of Nutrients and Irrigation Water Management were completed by Dick Johnson (NRCS) and Howard Neibling (U of I) followed by a geologic study utilizing monitoring wells measuring ground water.Recommendations recognized the importance of nutrients and irrigation management and conservation crop rotation to extract nitrates.  The report identified contributing factors of agricultural land uses applied to farming and livestock operations.  Identified a significant contribution factor of inadequately cased wells and sealing standards.
